Human behaviour is rarely logical or consistent; tenderness can coexist with aggression, intimacy with rejection, and care with control. In Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater, these contradictions become visible through gesture, repetition and the dynamics between bodies. For AI, such moments raise a fundamental question: how can systems interpret human behaviour without reducing its complexity to predictable patterns? Exploring the space between what people express and what they feel reveals the limits of machine understanding, and the enduring importance of ambiguity, empathy and embodied experience.
